The Turkish authorities have announced that classes will resume next Monday in four of the provinces affected by the devastating earthquakes registered on February 6 in the south of the country, near the border with Syria, which have left more than 55,000 fatalities. , including more than 50,000 deaths on Turkish territory.
The Turkish Education Minister, Mahmut Ozer, has indicated that classes will be resumed “gradually” in several districts of the provinces of Adyaman, Kahramanmaras, Hatay and Malatya, as reported by the Turkish newspaper ‘Hurriyet’. Thus, he has pointed out that the authorities will provide transportation to allow students to go to the classroom in morning and afternoon shifts.
“We have not left the children hit by the earthquake alone and we are trying to get them to continue their education in tents and prefabricated facilities since February 6 to help them overcome this trauma,” he said, before detailing that they have settled near of 1,800 shops and prefabricated schools in the affected areas to address these needs of children.
The earthquakes on February 6 were centered in Kahramanmaras province and caused enormous devastation in ten affected Turkish provinces, as well as in northern Syria. The donor conference held on Monday in Brussels committed 7,000 million euros to support the victims – the vast majority, 6,050 million euros, will go to the reconstruction of the affected areas in Turkey.
