July 23 () –
The Turkish Army has “neutralized” (killed or incapacitated) 290 militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) during the first three months of its new military operation in Iraq, known as ‘Blockade Claw’, as reported by this Saturday the Turkish Ministry of National Defense.
The Turkish Army has intensified its operations against the PKK both in the country and in northern Iraq — where the formation has numerous bases — since the ceasefire between the Government and the armed group was broken in July 2015 .
“In the three months of the operation, the Turkish Army neutralized 290 militants of the PKK terrorist organization,” according to the ministry’s statement.
Also, since the start of the new deployment on April 17, the Turkish Armed Forces have destroyed some 330 positions of the fighters, according to the note again.
The operation has suffered a severe blow this week after the death of nine tourists in an artillery attack blamed on the Turkish Army against Zajo, in the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan (north).
Iraqi authorities have called on Turkey to “officially apologize” and “withdraw its military forces” from Iraqi territory.
