23 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tunisian Police have arrested on Wednesday the opposition Chaima Issa, belonging to the National Salvation Front (FSN), and the leader of the Republican Party, Issam Chebbi, all this in the midst of a wave of arrests of members of the opposition and of civil society.
The first of the arrests has been confirmed by the lawyer and political activist Samir Dilo in a statement posted on his Facebook page and picked up by the Kapitalis FM station, where he has detailed that Chaima Issa has been arrested after the security forces raided her home.
Shortly before, the Tunisian security forces detained the leader of the Republican Party, Issam Chebbi, while he was with his family in a shopping center, as reported by the aforementioned station.
Over the past few weeks there have been arrests of opposition leaders, members of the judiciary, journalists and activists. Saied has promoted a series of measures to reform the political system in Tunisia, including a constitutional referendum, approved in the midst of the opposition boycott, which reinforces the powers of the Presidency.
The opposition has denounced the authoritarian drift of the president and has demanded his resignation, especially after the very low turnout in the December and January legislatures.
