Sep. 12 () –

At least eleven people have died and another dozen are still missing after the shipwreck on Tuesday of a boat off the coast of Tunisia, in the Mediterranean.

The Tunisian Coast Guard rescued 14 people after the sinking of the boat, which was carrying 37 migrants to Italy.

The Tunisian state news agency (TAP) reported this Sunday that – as part of a search operation – the country’s Coast Guard would have recovered five more bodies this weekend, so the number of victims would have increased to eleven.

However, the authorities recall that another twelve people are still missing. According to investigations launched by the prosecutor, all the people on board the boat were Tunisian.

The International Organization for Migration, a UN agency, estimates that more than 1,000 migrants have died this year trying to cross the central Mediterranean, with April being the month in which the most deaths -233- have been registered.
