TSMC’s top customers reduce their wafer orders by 2023

A few days ago we told how TSMC began production of its 3-nanometer node celebrating it with a party yesterday the 29th. But this joy seems not to be lasting, since 2023 will be a difficult year even for TSMC. as we can read in DigitimesTSMC would have received an order to reduce orders from your top 10 customersamong them Apple, Mediatek, NVIDIA, Intel and AMDfor the next year 2023. This will make TSMC cut its profits in a year that, as we have seen in other news, it seems that it will not be very good for computing.

This reduction in orders does not seem to affect this new 3 nanometer node, but other nodes already implanted, being those of 6 and 7 nanometers the most affected with a production of half for the first quarter of 2023. It is also expected to reduce the production of other nodes such as the 4 and 5 nanometers or the 28 nanometers. This reduction is due, among other things, to a less interest in buying mobile devices by users, whose processors are mostly manufactured by TSMC.

To help reduce this loss, TSMC announced a price hike which puts the 3-nanometer wafer up to $20,000, costing twice as much as the 7-nanometer wafer.
