Former US President Donald Trump sued for defamation in federal court in Florida on Monday.
The former president requests 475 million dollars in punitive damages and claims that the network had carried out a “campaign of defamation and slander” against him.
Trump claims in his lawsuit, filed in US District Court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, that the network had used its clout as an influential news organization to defeat him politically.
declined to comment on the case.
Trump claims in the lawsuit that has used defamatory labels such as “racist,” “Russia’s lackey,” “insurrectionist” and “Hitler” against him.
The lawsuit comes at a time when the former presidentfaces criminal investigation from the Justice Department for withholding government records at his Mar-a-Lago, Florida estate after leaving office in January 2021.
