The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, nominated on Wednesday the commissioner of Miami-Dade County in Florida, Kevin Marino Cabrera, as his new ambassador in Panama for the administration that he will command as of January 20.

In a post on his Truth Social network on Wednesday, Trump accused Chinese soldiers of illegally operating the canal and “always making sure the United States puts up billions of dollars in ‘reparations’ money.”
The president of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, has stated that China has no influence in the administration of the canal.
China does not control or manage the canal, but a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based CK Hutchison Holdings has long managed two ports located at the canal’s Caribbean and Pacific entrances.
Recently, the president-elect nominated diplomat Ron Johnson, lawyer Dan Newlin and doctor Peter Lamelas as his new ambassadors to Mexico, Colombia and Argentina respectively. He also announced his intention to send businessman Lou Rinaldi as head of mission in Uruguay and presenter Leah Francis Campos as diplomatic leader in the Dominican Republic.
