Trudeau and Yoon meet in Seoul to address the Human Rights situation in North Korea

May 17. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, met this Wednesday in Seoul, the country’s capital, to address North Korea’s Human Rights record at the height of the tension in the region.

Trudeau arrived in the South Korean city on Tuesday as part of a three-day visit to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Both have addressed issues related to International Law, as well as increasing their cooperation for the extraction of “vitally important” minerals, as well as contributing to increasing cultural exchanges that benefit, especially, future generations.

The two leaders are expected to adopt a joint declaration with a view to strengthening bilateral relations with an eye on “another 60 years”, as the title of the text indicates, according to information from the South Korean Presidency collected by the news agency Yonhap.

This is the third summit between Yoon and Trudeau after the two held a brief meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit that took place in June 2022 in Madrid and, later, in Ottawa last September.

Trudeau has become the first Canadian head of government to visit South Korea in nine years.
