( Spanish) – The Secretariat of National Risk and Contingency Management (Copeco) of Honduras released a preliminary report this Friday in which it maintains that there are at least 86 damaged homes and more than 45,000 people affected by the passage of Tropical Storm Sara.
The Juan Manuel Gálvez airports, in Roatán; Golosón, in La Ceiba, and Toncontín, in Tegucigalpa, have temporarily closed due to the emergency caused by the intense rains left in its wake by tropical storm Sara, the Honduran Civil Aeronautics Agency (AHAC) reported this Friday through the network. social
The AHAC detailed that the measure will remain until further notice and recommended users contact their airline for updated information on flights.
On Thursday, President Xiomara Castro announced that all citizens should move to shelters away from rivers and warned that the storm could become a catastrophic event.
The Secretariat of Risk and Contingency Management reported this Friday that Sara is expected to advance on Saturday in front of the Honduran department of Atlántida and move away towards Belize.
Multiple scenarios for what could happen to Sara after its interaction with Honduras and the Yucatan Peninsula were possible earlier this week, but one appears to be prevailing and is good news for a US Gulf Coast exhausted after having been hit by five hurricanes this year.
Sara is likely to have too much interaction with land in Central America and Mexico to survive in the Gulf of Mexico early next week as originally forecast, the NHC said Thursday afternoon.
For its part, the National Meteorological Service of Mexico announced the installation of a prevention zone due to the passage of the storm, according to a statement released by the National Water Commission (Conagua).
The statement details that heavy to very intense rains are expected in the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Veracruz, Yucatán, Quintana Roo and Campeche.
