Trenasa works on the rehabilitation of the Paris metro and other projects for New Zealand, Germany and the United Arab Emirates

PAMPLONA, March 6 () –

The Minister of Economic and Business Development of the Government of Navarra, Mikel Irujo, and the Director of Business Policy, International Projection and Labor, Izaskun Goñi, have visited the Trenasa plant in Castejón, where they have been able to learn about the activity it carries out and the Future projects.

The company belongs to the CAF railway group, provider of comprehensive transport systems, both in the rail field (metro, trams, high-speed, suburban, commuter, locomotives) and non-rail (sustainable urban buses).

During the visit to the Castejón plant, which currently has 70 employees, Director Irujo had the opportunity to attend a meeting with the company’s management team. At the meeting, Trenasa’s manager, Luis Fernández González, together with Josu Imaz, general director of the Vehicle Business and member of CAF’s executive committee, explained that the company is currently working on several projects that ensure the activity of the Navarra company for the years 2023 and 2024. Specifically, the rehabilitation of the Paris commuter train, the manufacture of trains for Auckland (New Zealand) and Essen (Germany). In addition, by the end of the year, they will start another project for the United Arab Emirates and, at the beginning of 2024, one for Bonn (Germany).

Trenasa’s manager stressed that the company has shown throughout its history “great versatility at a production level, which, together with its size, has shown its ability to adapt to both large projects and those of lesser volume “. In addition, as he has assured, “they have been pioneers in the manufacture of boxes with stainless steel technology that has later been successfully exported to other Group plants”.

For their part, Mikel Irujo and Izaskun Goñi stressed that “it is very positive” to have industrial activity in Navarra also in the railway sector. “The commitment to rail transport is a commitment to the decarbonisation of the transport sector. Likewise, it is a great satisfaction to see that the trains manufactured in Navarra reach all corners of the world and that the activity of the plant is growing”, they have indicated. On the other hand, they wanted to highlight the added value of Trenasa’s location in the Castejón industrial estate “since it has space to attract new companies and has an important infrastructure as a strategic transport node, which they want to promote with the development of an intermodal system, as included in the Navarra Industry Plan”, emphasized the general director.

During the meeting, Imaz has identified the challenges that this sector faces: “Decarbonization and energy efficiency, digitization both in terms of processes and the product itself, as well as the development of technologies based on the batteries and hydrogen.

After concluding the meeting, the director and the general manager took a tour of the Castejón plant, which is currently in the process of adapting its assembly lines for new projects and auxiliary assemblies.

The Castejón industrial estate, promoted since 2000 by the Government of Navarra and with activity in different sectors, is a point of communication that, with the presence of the railway node, becomes an attraction for the establishment of companies. For this reason, the General Directorate of Business Policy, International Projection and Labor is working on expanding the industrial estate.
