Today No Circulation on Saturday: which cars can circulate and which rest on October 12

HNC

It’s back on Saturday and it’s back, once again, on Saturday’s Hoy No Circula. Yes, those special restrictions of the program devised by the CDMX Environment Secretariat (SEDEMA) that is applied in the 16 municipalities in Mexico City and in some suburban municipalities of the State of Mexico.

With what objective? In order to reduce polluting emissions floating in the air and, therefore, improve its quality. As? You probably know it: forcing some vehicles to stay at home.

Because to reduce the volume of pollution it is essential that some cars do not circulate. On Saturday, however, remember that there are special restrictions because not all cars rest nor will all cars that rest have to do so every Saturday.

Taking this into account, we remind you that Hoy No Circula applies in the 16 municipalities in Mexico City and in the following suburban municipalities of the State of Mexico:

  • Atizapan of Zaragoza
  • Coacalco de Berriozábal
  • Cuautitlan
  • Cuautitlán Izcalli
  • Chalco
  • Chicoloapan
  • Chimalhuacan
  • Ecatepec de Morelos
  • Huixquilucan
  • Ixtapaluca
  • Peace
  • Naucalpan de Juárez
  • Nezahualcoyotl
  • Nicolas Romero
  • Tecámac
  • Tlalnepantla de Baz
  • Tultitlan
  • Chalco Valley

What cars and license plates does Hoy No Circula Saturday affect?

Taking all of the above into account, the first thing you should know to understand that not all cars should always stay home on Saturdays is that this will depend on the hologram of each car.

First of all, the first thing to be clear about is that the restrictions will apply between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.. Therefore, at night we will not have to deal with them.

This means that the affected cars will not have to comply with these restrictions during the hours that are not restricted. But what car are we talking about? Everything will depend on the hologram number and the last license plate number. Taking this into account, each Saturday the following distribution will be given:

  • Those that can circulate every Saturday
  • Those who have to rest every Saturday
  • Those who rest every other Saturday

And with the basic notions reviewed, the first ones who can breathe easy are the owners of cars with holograms 0 and 00. In these cases, the restrictions do not affect them on any day of the week and, therefore, not on Saturdays either.

Those with hologram two, on the contrary, will have to stay home on the day marked by the last license plate number, as you can see in the image above, and every Saturday.

Finally, those with hologram one and a plate ending in an even number will be the ones who will have to leave the car at home this Saturday. This is because October 12 is the second Saturday of the month. On the contrary, those with hologram one and a plate ending in an odd number will be the ones who do the same next week.

Of course, we must keep in mind that there are some exceptions that allow the circulation of specific vehicles like any other day of the week. In this case, Hoy No Circula does not apply and, of course, neither does Hoy No Circula Saturday:

  • Those with hologram 0 and 00
  • Those that run on electricity, natural gas or are hybrids
  • Those who have a disabled license plate
  • All those dedicated to urban transportation services (includes funeral homes)
  • Those that offer school or passenger transportation
  • Those intended for public safety and/or civil protection

Pollution is not only making you live less and worse. It's also making you dumber

If you fail to comply with these restrictions, the fine will be 20 to 30 times the Measurement and Update Unit (UMA), which is equivalent to 1,924.40 pesos and even 2,886.60 pesos.
