TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew is expected to appear before the US Congress in March to face questions from lawmakers about the safety of US users on the popular short video app, something that has been a point of concern for a long time.
The Committee on Energy and Commerce confirmed the hearing in a press release on Monday announcing that the head of TikTok would testify on March 23, as we can read on The Verge, a testimonial that probably serves to initially measure the risk that TikTok users suffer with the application.
It should be remembered that TikTok is close to being banned by the United States nationally, so, according to Brooke Oberwetter, TikTok spokesperson, it is appreciated “the opportunity to set the record straight on TikTok, ByteDance, and the commitments we are making to address US national security concerns before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce”.
If the government cannot reach an agreement with TikTok in the coming months, lawmakers can prepare their own solutions, which as we mentioned, it could end with a total ban on TikTok in the United States.
