Dec. 20 (Portaltic/EP) –
TikTok has implemented this Tuesday a new feature what explains the reasons for recommended content in the ‘For You’ feedso that the technical details of why a particular video has been recommended are “easier to understand” for users.
‘For you’ It is one of the main screens of the social network in which, through content recommended by TikTok, content from accounts that the user does not follow is displayed. This “allows people to discover an incredible variety of ideas, creators, products and entertainment”, as explained by the platform in a statement.
The tiktok recommendation system choose the content of this feed by classifying the videos based on a combination of factors based on user activity in the application. Although, the application includes settings to express what content is not interesting for the profile.
However, the Chinese social network introduced a new section called ‘Why this video’, an information box that explains the reason why it suggests certain content to its users based on their interests or interactions on the platform and that is found in the drop-down menu of ‘Share’.
The platform has explained that in this space it can indicate to users that it recommends a certain content based on the content they view, select or share, as well as by the comments posted or by your searches. You can also suggest videos that are succeeding in the region in which the user is located.
With this new feature the social network owned by ByteDance hopes to offer you a “meaningful” transparency and get people to connect and participate in the platform by maintaining a control of your experience.
In addition, aims to offer its users a range of “relevant and entertaining content”while helping users understand why a particular video has been recommended to them thanks to this new feature.
TikTok has indicated that it will continue expanding functionality in the future to further explain how their algorithm works and “bring more granularity and transparency” to content recommendations.
