Three Sherpas missing in an avalanche on Everest

12 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

At least three Sherpas have been reported missing this Wednesday due to an avalanche on Mount Everest, as confirmed by the authorities, who have indicated that a base camp has been affected by the landslide.

Lakpa Norbu Sherpa, coordinator of the base camp for the Himalayan Rescue Association, has detailed in statements to the Nepali newspaper ‘The Kathmandu Post’ that a layer of more than 50 meters of ice has slipped down the mountain below Camp 1 , located at 5,700 meters of altitude.

Likewise, it has stressed that the possibility of finding the disappeared alive is “very low”, given that “they are buried under five or six meters (of snow and ice)”. “It is not possible to carry out a rescue mission because there is still a risk of an avalanche”, he has settled.
