ERFURT (GERMANY), 29 (DPA/EP)
Three German political parties from different ideological spectrums have reached an agreement to try to form a coalition to govern in the state of Thuringia despite the fact that the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) was the most voted party with 32 of the 88 seats in Parliament. state.
The AfD has not been part of the agreement, which includes the Christian Democrats (CDU), who won 23 seats, the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – For Reason and Justice (BSW) – with 15 seats and the Social Democrats with six.
If an agreement is reached, the coalition would have 44 seats, one short of an absolute majority. Negotiations will begin on Tuesday.
“We have managed to reach a consensus,” declared the head of the state CDU, Mario Voigt. BSW state head Katja Wolf mentioned that the talks had been intense. For his part, the leader of the social democratic party has stated that he would take the decision to the party executive in Thuringia.
This agreement provides, among others, that the parties will support diplomatic initiatives at the national level aimed at ending the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Likewise, the BSW has been very critical of German military support for Ukraine, as well as plans to station American Tomahawk missiles in the European country.
On July 10, the United States announced the “episodic” deployment of long-range missiles in Germany, such as the SM-6 Tomahawk missiles, as well as hypersonic weapons still in development that have a greater range than the projectiles currently deployed.
