Three people are missing due to the serious floods that have affected the south of Swiss and that kept the town of Zermatt, one of the best-known ski resorts in the country and a popular tourist destination, isolated for a few hours.
The floods have followed several weeks of constant rain, a period in which some days of intense sun and heat caused the precipitate thaw typical of spring, which had been delayed by lower temperatures than usual for the season and which caused the rapid rise of the waters.
The floods were a consequence of the simultaneous rise in the level of the Rhône River and several lateral waterways.
This situation caused landslides in the town of Mesolcinein the canton of Graubünden, after a strong storm accompanied by heavy rainfall.
Four people were dragged through the mud, one of which was later rescued alive. The search for the other three continues.
In the canton of Valais, 230 people were evacuatedof which about 170 have been able to return to their homes after the progressive decrease in the water level and it was confirmed that their homes had not suffered damage.
