June 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Three miners were shot to death this Friday in Jol, in the municipality of Riyom, in the Nigerian state of Plateau, as reported by the NGO Berom Youth Movement.
A person in charge of the group, Rwang Tengwong, has confirmed these deaths on Saturday in statements to the newspaper ‘Premium Times’ and has explained that other miners and farmers in the area have fled for fear of new attacks.
At around 11:00 am on Friday the miners were heading to their workplaces when they were attacked. Three of them died and two more were injured.
Tengwong has called on the authorities to step up surveillance and protect life and property in rural areas. Last Wednesday six members of local protection militias were assassinated by armed individuals in Sambak, in the same municipality in a new episode of violence between farmers and herders.
