Three Lebanese Civil Protection members killed in Israeli airstrike

September 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Lebanon’s General Directorate of Civil Defense — equivalent to Civil Protection — reported on Saturday the death of three of its workers and the wounding of another in an Israeli bombing of a vehicle while they were working to extinguish a fire.

“Three workers, Qassem Bazzi, Mohamed Hashem and Abbas Hamud, have been killed in an Israeli attack on a firefighting vehicle that had completed a firefighting mission at 18:15 in the town of Frun, in the Nabatieh district,” the agency said, according to the official Lebanese news agency, NNA.

The Director General of Civil Defence, Brigadier General Raymond Jatar, has conveyed “his most sincere condolences to the families” and wished a speedy recovery to the injured man, identified as Mohamed Amasha, who has been transferred to the Tebnin Public Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery for the serious injuries sustained.

The Lebanese newspaper L’Orient le Jour reported that an Israeli military drone was involved in the attack and stressed that the fire the victims were fighting had been caused on Friday by Israeli strikes themselves.

In addition, it was reported that two other members of the Civil Defence were injured by Israeli artillery fire in Qabrija, in the Marjayoun district.
