July 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least three people have died this Tuesday in an attack with mortar shells against the surroundings of the Presidential Palace of Somalia in the capital, Mogadishu, an event blamed by the authorities on the terrorist group Al Shabaab.
Witnesses quoted by the Somali radio station Radio Shabelle have indicated that the attack has resulted in three other injuries and have detailed that the projectiles have hit the neighborhood of Uadhigley, located near the Presidential Palace. The victims would be an adult and his two children.
The Somali authorities have not yet ruled on what happened, although they have confirmed the death of an alleged member of Al Shabaab in an operation launched in the Lower Shabelle region, amid the increase in offensives against the group, linked to the terrorist organization Al Qaeda.
Somalia has increased offensives against Al Shabaab in recent months with the support of clans and local militias as part of a series of decisions taken by the president, Hasan Sheikh Mohamud, who promised upon taking office to put the fight against terrorism at the center of his efforts to stabilize the African country.
