At least three internally displaced people have died due to a projectile attack allegedly carried out by the rebel group March 23 Movement (M23) against a camp located around the city of Goma, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). ).
Sources cited by the radio station Radio Okapi have indicated that the incident took place during the day on Sunday and have added that the projectiles would have been fired from surrounding hills controlled by the rebels, who have made advances in the area in recent weeks.
Likewise, they have stressed that a dozen homes burned down in Birere, while a senior Masisi official has stressed that the attacks on camps for displaced people represent a violation of Humanitarian Law, without the M23 having commented so far on these accusations.
The M23 is a rebel group made up mainly of Congolese Tutsis. After a conflict between 2012 and 2013, the authorities and the group signed a peace agreement, although the militia launched a new offensive in October 2022 that has led to a serious diplomatic crisis between the DRC and Rwanda, accused of financing these rebels. , something that Kigali has categorically denied.
