Sep. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Army of Cameroon has announced the death of three alleged militiamen, including a senior separatist official, in the framework of a security operation carried out in the Northwest Region, one of the two with an Anglophone majority in the country.
Sources close to the Army quoted by the Cameroun Web news portal have indicated that “at least three terrorists were neutralized (…), including the terrorist alias ‘Satan'”.
The operation, carried out in the village of Awing, has taken place about two days after the death of six people in an attack blamed on separatists against a bus in this part of the country.
The Anglophone regions of Cameroon — Northwest and Southwest — have been shaken by the conflict as a result of the repression of separatist movements after the self-proclamation of independence of Ambazonia on October 1, 2017, which was followed by a harsh repression by the authorities.
The previous year, this area -another part of the British colonies in Africa but which decided to join French Cameroon- was the scene of peaceful protests to demand greater autonomy or independence, arguing discrimination by the central authorities, also in language topics.
