Today is the day that Threads, the alternative to Twitter developed by Meta (the company behind Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram, among other services), was officially launched on the market.
This release coincides with the latest quips by controversial billionaire Elon Musk, which restricts the number of tweets users can see. This decision, added to the ones he has been making since he took command of the popular social network, has made many users look for alternatives to Twitter, and from Meta they do not want to miss the opportunity.
At the moment, at least officially, not available in europe due to the DMA law and its data protection clauses that prohibit applications and products from the same company from sharing data with each other, and Threads does it with Facebook and Instagram.
However, that has not prevented Threads reach more than 5 million users within the first 4 hours of its release (which took place today at 1am) for iOS.
Unlike Twitter, which increasingly restricts access to third parties, Threads will allow users to interact with other platforms such as Mastodon. If it finally reaches the whole world, it could be the last blow in the fall of Twitter.
