Thousands of people take part in the funerals of those killed in Jenin after the end of the Israeli operation

July 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Thousands of people have participated this Wednesday in the funeral of nine of the twelve Palestinians killed in the framework of the operation carried out by the Israeli Army in the West Bank city of Jenin (north), hours after the military completed its withdrawal. and that the mission was officially terminated.

According to information collected by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the march started at the Jenin Public Hospital, where the bodies of the deceased were, and ended at the refugee camp cemetery.

Thus, some of the participants have carried the coffins of the dead on their shoulders, which have been buried one next to the other in the cemetery, where two other deceased were already buried on Tuesday. The last fatality has been transferred to the town of Maizalon, located near Jenin, where she has also been buried.

The ceremony was attended by senior Palestinian officials and leaders of Palestinian armed groups who have called on the international community for “protection” for the civilian population of the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Israel has assured that there are no civilians among the deceased, although at least five were minors.

The Israeli Army has indicated the main objective was that the place “is not a safe place” for “terrorists” given the uptick in violence in recent months, while the Palestinian prime minister, Mohamad ShtayĆ©, affirmed that “it is the people Palestinian who has the right to self-defense”, a right that “does not have an occupying power.

Increased tensions in recent months have resulted in the deaths of more than 185 Palestinians and 25 Israelis, amid fears of a widespread outbreak of violence. Tensions have spiked especially since June 19, when an Israeli army raid in Jenin left seven Palestinians dead — including two minors — and more than 90 wounded. Just a day later, four Israelis were killed in an attack near the Eli settlement.

In this context, hundreds of settlers carried out attacks against West Bank towns, events that resulted in the death of a Palestinian, while the Israeli Army killed three Palestinians –members of Islamic Jihad and the armed wing of Al Fatah– in a drone strike near Jenin.
