The Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) published a new report on the ‘Monitoring of Technological Trends’, in which it presented an analysis of the changes faced by the ICT, postal and audiovisual sectors.

Among the main findings, it was highlighted that at the national level, the country determined that the 6 GHz band will be free to use, which will facilitate the development of wireless technologies such as WiFi 6.
“There are already expressions of interest for the next spectrum auction for 5G services and the implementation of Open RAN solutions in mobile networks in rural areas of the country has begun, for which a positive evolution is observed regarding the adoption of emerging technologies, which will allow a better use of services by userss”, framed the analysis.

Faced with international trends, the report showed that the adoption of 5G worldwide continues to grow rapidly and it is estimated that the total number of connections will reach 1 billion by 2022, driven by factors such as the expansion of 5G network coverage, the increase in sales of 5G terminals, among other factors.

“It is expected that by 2025, 5G technology will represent around 25% of the total mobile connections in the world, reaching 2,000 million connections.s”, highlighted the CRC report.
