Who is Shou Zi Chew?
Shou Zi Chew joined the team at TikTok parent ByteDance in early 2021 as its CFO. And from May of that same year he was placed at the head of the social network, as executive director. Chew, originally from Singapore, reached this position eight months after its former CEO, Kevin Mayer, resigned due to conflicts with the United States government, which accused it of espionage and for that reason sought to ban the application.
Originally from Singapore, he is married with two children. Contrary to the social network he represents, whose videos can go viral in a matter of minutes, Chew has a more discreet profile, just a few videos on his @ shou.time account and little public projection.
In some interviews, he has said that he does not allow his children to use TikTok because they are too young.
Where did you work before being the CEO of Tiktok?
Chew served as an officer in the Singapore Army during his mandatory military service, earning a BA in economics from University College of London and an MBA from Harvard Business School. AND
He worked for Goldman Sachs in London and did an internship at Facebook before returning to Asia.
In 2010, he joined the investment firm Internet DST, owned by billionaire Yuri Milner, where he participated in the shares of this firm with Chinese technology giants such as JD.com or DiDi.
It is worth mentioning that his relationship with ByteDance is not fortuitous, since in 2013 he led a team that became one of the first investors that I trust in the technology company.
His next step in the ecosystem was to take over as Xiaomi’s chief financial officer and president of international business, where he helped bring the smartphone maker’s products to the global market.
