( Spanish) – The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, said this Wednesday that, although she will wait for an official announcement, “there is no cause for concern” if Donald Trump wins the presidential election, as projected.

“To our countrymen and women, to their families who are here, there is no reason for concern, Mexico always moves forward, we are a free, independent and sovereign country and there will be a good relationship with the United States. I am convinced of this,” he noted at the beginning of his daily press conference.

In the final days of the campaign, Trump threatened to charge 25% tariffs on Mexico if illegal immigration is not reduced.

Through a spokesperson, the Mexican presidency then responded that all statements by the Sheinbaum Government are “neutral” and reiterated that the Executive will not take positions until the US electoral process has ended.
