Very soon electric trams could reign on many of our roads, especially in the center of cities.
Trams are the past but electric trams are the future, at least in certain cities like Hong Kong that could end up hosting one or another trolley car avant-garde that will surprise you, especially if an interesting design that has been offered to the Asian city prospers.
And now the company Ponti Design Studio has shown a concept design of a driverless, double-decker electric tram that could travel the roads of Hong Kong offering splendid views and with quite ample seats.
And it is that the trams were released more than 110 years ago, and although they are increasingly scarce in the big cities, the electric trams they could be the future and be present with their respective stops in places like Hong Kong.
This tram concept features large benches in the inside where passengers can sit both facing inwards and facing outwards to always have the best views of the city.
The good thing about this tram is that it has a completely glass roof, so that users can enjoy the good sunny weather and also see each of the skyscrapers of this great Asian city to a greater extent.
According to its creators, the interior is elegant and comfortable, with charcoal gray walls, padded seats, wooden floors and moldings with a natural finish.
What they intend with this design is that people increasingly use public transport instead of private cars to reduce pollution.
They also intend to invite users to use public transport more given that after the pandemic its use has dropped considerably in this city.
“This is especially important in the densely populated city of Hong Kong, where social distancing is difficult to achieve.”, points out the Italian designer Andrea Ponti to dezeen.
And with stops included
This concept also shows the relevant stops scattered around the city, and they have created ones where passengers can get off from both sides, and also the trams themselves could be charged at the stops so that they always have power.
On the other hand, tram payments would be made contactless through Hong Kong’s Octopus card system before boarding the vehicle.
“Island represents the progressive spirit of Hong Kong and introduces a new concept of public transport that goes beyond the practice of social distancingPonti added.
“The idea of designing a tram is not a coincidence: trams are one of the symbols of the city, and trams celebrate their 115th anniversary this year“, remember.
We will see if this electric tram finally becomes a reality in the city of Hong Kong, but as we have explained it is a concept.
