Friday the 13th: Resurrected, free fan-made project, canceled
In early April, a dedicated group of fans announced Friday the 13th: Resurrecteda unofficial free version of the beloved horror game of 2017. Those responsible for this project planned to announce the release date and other details on April 15 in a special event on YouTube.
In addition to reviving the original title with dedicated serversthis mod was intended to feature exclusive community-made content, such as new characters and skins. However, all plans collapsed due to the direct intervention of Horror Inc., the owner of the film rights to the franchise.
At the beginning of this week, the team in charge of Friday the 13th: Resurrected shared bad news for fans: the project was canceled due to a lawyer representing Horror Inc. filing a cease and desist letter.
The letter complains to the authors of the free version of the horror video game for “making use of Not authorized of intellectual property rights to develop an imitation game without a license.” Consequently, fans were forced to remove all content related to the IP.
“It's a shame that someone wants to fight a non-profit fan-created project. It was not our intention to 'damage the brand', as Horror Inc. claims (…) Not only the project has ended, but also the franchise itself because it seems that Horror Inc. just wants to leave this incredible series behind and leave her in oblivion“, commented the team responsible for Friday the 13th: Resurrected.
The people in charge of the new version that will never see the light say that they will still work on new projects, although most likely they will not be related to Crystal Lake and Jason Voorhees. In a publication On social networks, they thanked the community for their support and stated that they did their best.
