Unlike PlayStation and Nintendo, Microsoft embraced backwards compatibility with an ambitious initiative that allows gamers from Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S enjoy some of their favorite titles from the company’s older consoles; however, an annoying error prevents them from installing their classic games.
Although the backwards compatibility program stopped receiving more games in 2021, the library of retro offerings that can be enjoyed on contemporary Xbox platforms is very extensive. The initiative is particularly useful when we remember that many titles disappeared from digital stores.
However, a sector of the community announced that it is experiencing problems installing its backwards compatible games. While waiting for Microsoft to take action on the matter, users discovered a temporary solution which, although not perfect, can help some people.

Xbox players are having trouble playing their backwards compatible games
An August update added support for Fire TV Stick and Discord on Xbox, but it appears to have also introduced a bug that prevented many from being able to connect to multiplayer titlesThe company acknowledged the situation and released another patch that fixed the problem.
However, it seems that the most recent update introduces another problem that affects backwards compatible video games. Xbox and Xbox 360.
Through social networks and forums, users reported that they encounter a error message that tells them “there is a problem getting that content” when they try to install a backwards compatible game through a disk. Luckily, it seems that Xbox 360 titles previously downloaded are working fine and are not affected by the mysterious error.
However, players regret that they cannot play the titles they bought on physical formatThis is particularly sad when you consider that the Xbox 360 digital storefront ceased operations at the end of July. This means that the only way to enjoy some of that console’s retro titles is through their disc versions.
“I have the same problem on my Xbox Series X. I just received my copy of Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition via messenger and went to install it but got this error. Hope they fix it soon!” said one user on reddit. “At first I thought maybe I had bought a Bad diskbut unfortunately this happens with all games of Xbox 360 that I have,” commented another.
While waiting for that Microsoftt address the situation and provide an official solution, players found a way to resolve the issue.
Specifically, there are those who say that looking for the backwards compatible video game in the Xbox Store While the disc is in the console, it will bring up an option to install it; however, some players claim that this method did not work for them and that they are still having problems playing their classic titles. In those cases, they will have to wait for the company to fix the error.
