Aug. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Thirteen militants from the Islamist group Al Shabaab were killed this Sunday in a US bombing in the Hiiran region, in central Somalia.
Somali public television, SNTV, has reported this attack citing Somali military sources, reports the Bloomberg news agency.
On August 9, four other Al Shabaab militiamen were killed in another US airstrike in response to insurgent action against Somali forces, the US Armed Forces Africa Command reported at the time.
The United States has sent hundreds of soldiers to Somalia and is thus reversing the withdrawal of forces from the country ordered by former President Donald Trump.
The situation in the country has also worsened due to the worst drought in more than 40 years, a situation that particularly affects the more than one million displaced people who have been counted since January 2021, according to UN data.
