Hosted by the UN-GGIM Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (UN-IGIF) Working Group: Americas.
The Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (UN-IGIF) working group of the United Nations Regional Committee on Global Geospatial Information Management for the Americas (UN-GGIM: Americas) was created with the aim that the countries of the region manage to advance in the implementation of this Framework. In this sense, the group has designed a series of consultations aimed at Member States to learn about the status of implementation of UN-IGIF in the Americas. In these consultations, the importance of delving into tangible experiences in each of the 9 strategic ways of the Frame: Governance; Policies and Legal Framework; Finance; Data; Innovation; Standards; Alliances; Skills and Education; and Communication and Commitment.
With this discussion, the aim is to continue the series of webinars on each of the 9 strategic avenues of the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (IGIF). The dissemination and knowledge of these 9 ways is materialized in a practical and real way with tangible situations experienced by the countries themselves. Furthermore, this moment becomes a space to address and dissolve doubts from the construction of capabilities and shared experiences.
The strategic path number 4 on data It is the primary source of the Framework. Geospatial data is the foundation on which governments base many decisions. It is used in policy development and the delivery of government services. Its use is growing exponentially across all sectors for e-commerce, business intelligence, making timely and accurate decisions, and informing policies. Having access to the right data at the right time is crucial for good decision making.
The experiences of three countries in the region at different stages of geospatial data management, from production to publication. These experiences provide good practices that can be useful to everyone. This is an excellent space to understand how strategic track number 4 of the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework works and how it is applied in various contexts.
This approach enhances the value of the exchange of experiences and the opportunity to learn about the practical application of the strategy in other countries.
The main objectives of the conversation are:
- Disseminate the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (UN-IGIF) from a practical and real perspective.
- Provide countries with the opportunity to learn about concrete experiences in the implementation of each UN-IGIF strategic track.
- Encourage countries to begin the UN-IGIF implementation process, by addressing available materials, as well as implementation guides and success stories.
- Manage to address and dissolve doubts from a space of building shared capabilities and experiences.
