(Cnn in Spanish) — All the people who were trapped in the Quito cable car were rescued, the city’s municipality reported this Friday in a statement.
In total, the authorities rescued 27 people who had been suspended in the gondolas when the service was inoperative and 47 people who had been left without transportation on top of the mountain.
The mayor of Quito, Pabel Muñoz, added that after the rescue of all the people who were in the gondolas, he has ordered that the operations of the cable car be closed for the respective investigations of the case.
Muñoz also said that the rescued people do not show signs of hypothermia or injuries and all are already in their residences.

The Quito cable car reaches more than 3,947 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest cable cars in South America, according to its official website.
The cable car covers more than 2,500 meters in an 18-minute journey that offers a view of the Quito cityscape and the surrounding mountains.
