The authorities of the state of Jalisco, in western Mexico, located on Thursday 45 bags with human remains belonging to a still undetermined number of people and, according to preliminary analysis, among those remains could be some of the eight young people who disappeared last week. near the state capital.
The Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office indicated in a statement released Thursday night that “in a cross-section of preliminary information”, it was detected that part of the remains found “coincided with the physical characteristics of some of the young people” who were being sought, therefore that the next of kin were informed pending the final expert opinions.
The bags with the remains of men and women were located in the Mirador del Bosque ravine, on the outskirts of a suburb of Guadalajara, the state capital.
Fire teams, civil protection and a helicopter have been participating since Tuesday in the work carried out in the place, which has a depth of about 40 meters.
“The extraction in said area has not been completed and the work will continue until the collection of evidence is completely exhausted, even in complex conditions due to the depth and slope,” the prosecutor’s office said Thursday night.
The authorities arrived at the ravine after obtaining information on possible findings of “anatomical segments” in that area.
In Mexico there are more than 110,000 missing people and Jalisco is the state with the highest number, almost 15,000, according to data from the federal government. In addition, there are thousands of remains in morgues, cemeteries and clandestine graves that have yet to be identified.
