The cybersecurity group HackManac has warned of a security breach in Telefónica after The information of some supposed 120,000 company user accounts appears for sale in La Red forums.
The leaked information would include specific names, telephone numbers, email addresses and even physical addresses of users and employees of the multinational. It seems that passwords or more sensitive data such as banking data have not been compromised.
The leak comes from an alleged unauthorized access to the company's servers that would have taken place in March of this year. The attacker claims to have accessed a Telefónica database with more than 2.6 million fields.
At the moment it has not been verified whether the company has suffered the attack or if the data has been obtained through a third-party service, but Telefónica is investigating to determine the nature of the attack and be able to remedy it.
If confirmed, affected users should be especially careful against fraud or phishing attempts, since malicious users with access to this data could try to impersonate companies and other actors to obtain more data or money.
