June 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Burmese Army soldiers have killed five civilians during the assault on the town of Moebye, in Shan State, in southern Burma.
Neighbors in the area have denounced this attack, according to the Irrawaddy news portal, which highlights that the town is very close to the state of Kayah, where rebel militias have a significant presence.
The victims are two brothers, two more women and the father of both who died between Thursday and Friday. “The bodies of at least five civilians have been received in two days. We have not been able to recover more bodies due to the presence of the military,” the source said. The two women would have been raped by the soldiers before being killed. The corpses have been cremated by a group of Moebye volunteers.
Another thirteen people have been arrested by the military. “Some neighbors have informed us that their relatives are missing. The next day we found out that some of them had been killed by the soldiers of the military junta,” said another source.
On May 27, clashes between the military forces and the rebel militias took place in Moebye. Since then, thirteen civilian deaths have been recorded, according to the Moebye Popular Defense Force, quoted by Irrawaddy.
Burma has been plunged into a serious crisis since the coup in February 2021 and the Government of National Unity, the Burmese democratic authorities in exile, have indicated that the Burmese Army has committed more than thirty massacres of civilians throughout the country since the seizure of power.
