They denounce the kidnapping of 50 migrants on a bus in central Mexico

( Spanish) — Authorities in Mexico are investigating the discovery of an abandoned bus that was allegedly carrying migrants. The Public Security forces implemented a special operation on Tuesday in the north of the state of San Luis Potosí, after the state attorney general’s office was informed of the disappearance of a group of migrants as they passed through federal highway 57.

In this regard, the Secretary of Security of the state of Nuevo León, Gerardo Palacios, stated on his Twitter account that some foreigners that the authorities were able to locate confirmed the version of the kidnapping after escaping from their alleged captors.

“On this side, the state police Civil Force has managed to locate in the open air and help several foreign people who in first interviews confirm this information (the place of events) and who would have managed to escape from their captors and leave San Luis entering the territory of Nuevo León,” he wrote.

For its part, the Attorney General of San Luis Potosí stressed in a release that the events occurred in the neighboring state of Nuevo León, since the bus that transported the migrants of Central American origin was found empty in the Neoleón municipality of Galeana.

According to the statement, both states are working together to determine the whereabouts of the migrants who left Tapachula, in Chiapas, and who hired the services of the tourist bus based in Tlaxcala.

Likewise, José López, vice president of zone II of the Confederation of Mexican Transporters (CONATRAM) assured that, based on the GPS coordinates of the vehicle at the time it diverted its route, it is not ruled out that the attack originated in San Luis Potosí territory.

Due to these facts, the Roads Division of the National Guard assured the transporter leader that a search operation was implemented in the region of Nuevo León and Matehuala, a town in San Luis Potosí.

It should be remembered that, in mid-April, another group of Central American migrants was deprived of their liberty on their way through Matehuala, in an event that exposed a local human trafficking network that reached the police chief, who was arrested and who is currently in pretrial detention.

In this sense, the San Luis Potosí prosecutor’s office is investigating the mayor of Matehuala after the leak of an audio recording where he allegedly puts himself under the orders of a criminal organization.
