They closed the initiative "Generating spaces for the prevention of communicable diseases in the migrant population residing in Valdivia"

Last Sunday, March 19, a new day of delivery of information and education on communicable diseases was held, within the framework of the plains party organized by the Migrant Support Program of the Municipality of Valdivia, in charge of Amalia Guevara, in the premises of the SAVAL Park.

The stand focused on parasitic and viral zoonotic diseases, with a focus on the main diseases transmitted by animals to humans in the region. Likewise, free and voluntary HIV testing, post-test counseling and delivery of condoms were carried out.

“This project allowed us to actively link up with the migrant population residing in the city of Valdivia and bring them closer to the knowledge of some diseases typical of our country and region, several of which are also present in their countries of origin. In this way, we were also able to bring HIV testing and prevention closer to both the migrant and Chilean population, where they often tell us that they do not know how to access the exam, for which they appreciate these initiatives,” explained the academic Daniela Liempi.

During the closure, certificates of participation were delivered to the Medical Technology students who took part during the six months of the project, as well as to the other collaborating members, to the professionals of the NGO Previene Los Ríos Maryann Roberts and Francisco Caster , and Grace Arango from the NGO Migrante in Los Ríos.

On the occasion they were able to enjoy an intercultural space with the presentation of different folklore groups, singers and typical gastronomy of their countries.
