There are dozens of supermarkets that we can go to make our monthly or weekly purchases, some being present in a greater number of points than others.
There may be dozens of reasons why you prefer one supermarket to another, and we are not only talking about the price, but also the variety of products, familiarity, promotions or proximity to your home.
And now the OCU has asked 5,415 members about their food purchasing habits and their level of satisfaction in the supermarketsboth regionally and nationally.
The most surprising thing about this survey is that large chains like Mercadona are not among the most valued, while there are other lesser-known ones that are among the favorites of customers.
The favorite supermarkets, according to OCU customers
It is not Mercadona, but the regional chain stands out in the first place Esclat as the most valued of the 39 supermarket and hypermarket chains included in the survey. Regarding national level, Hipercor is the best valued.
If you are looking for well-known or very popular supermarkets in the table, you can see, for example, Lidl with a 76 rating, Eroski with 75, Carrefour with 72 or Mercadona with a 72.
Regarding the criteria most valued by OCU clients to discern this level of satisfaction, the following are listed:
- Assortment: El Corte Inglés, Hipercor, Esclat, Alcampo, Carrefour and Plusfrésc stand out for their variety of products. Covirán, Dia Market/Maxi, Costco and Mercadona are characterized by the opposite.
- The quality of the fresh produce is a strong point of Costco, Plusfrésc, Esclat, hypercorEl Corte Inglés, BM, Sorli and Bon Preu supermarkets.
- Regarding the price, the best valued chains in this aspect are Costco, Bonàrea and Lidl. The worst valued in prices are BM, Spar, La Despensa and Condis.
- Promotions: those of E.Leclerc and Carrefour stand out.
- And waiting at the till, Plusfrésc, Esclat, Bon Preu, Hiber y Covirán and Hiper Usera are the most valued.
And what about supermarkets that have the possibility of making purchases online?
Well, only a small percentage of those surveyed, specifically 8%, usually make the purchase online, while the rest prefer to physically visit the Supermarket.
Those satisfied consumers who prefer to shop online tend to bet on Consum, Hipercor and Gadis, which are the most appreciated.
As you have been able to appreciate, some of the most popular chains, those that are in a greater number of points in our neighbourhoods, are not usually exactly in the top positions.
