()– This Wednesday at 6 pm, local time in Ecuador, the deadline for registering candidates in the National Electoral Council (CNE) for the presidential and legislative elections scheduled for February 2025 ended.
The CNE reported that after the deadline concluded, a total of 16 registrations of presidential binomials were received that will be subject to the challenges and objections stage in the coming days. Only after these processes are resolved will the CNE inform the candidates that will become final.
What are the 16 pairings that aim to reach Carondelet?
The Electoral Council registered the registration of the following pre-candidates for president and vice president of the Republic respectively:
- Francesco Tabacchi and Blanca Sacancela for the Creating Opportunities Movement (CREO).
- Henry Cucalón and Carla Larrea for the Build Movement.
- Jorge Escala and Lucía Terán for the Unidad Popular party.
- Carlos Rabascall and María Rivas for the Democratic Left party.
- Jan Topic and Mishelle Calvache for the Sociedad Unida Más Acción (SUMA) party
- Daniel Noboa and María José Pinto for the National Democratic Action movement (ADN).
- Luisa González and Diego Borja for the Citizen Revolution and RETO movements.
- Henry Kronfle and Dallyana Passailaigue for the Christian Social Party.
- Leonidas Iza and Katiuska Molina for the Pachacutik movement.
- Iván Saquicela and María Luisa Coello for the Democracy Yes movement.
- Andrea González and Galo Moncayo for the Patriotic Society party.
- Juan Cueva and Cristina Reyes for the Amigo movement.
- Pedro Granja and Verónica Silva for the Ecuadorian Socialist Party.
- Víctor Araus and Stephanie Carrera for the Pueblo Equality Democracy movement (PID)
- Luis Felipe Tillería and Karla Rosero for the Avanza party.
- Jimmy Jairala and Lucía Vallecilla for the Democratic Center movement.
However, the registration of the pre-candidacy of the Jairala-Vallecilla binomial was denied by the National Electoral Council and the president of the organization Diana Atamaint explained that it was due to “errors in the sworn declaration and lack of signature by the secretary on the form.” For this reason, a period of 48 hours was opened to correct the observations made.
Registrations were also registered for national, provincial, foreign assembly members and Andean parliamentarians.
The presidential and legislative elections in Ecuador are scheduled for February 9 and the presidential second round is scheduled for April 13, according to the official CNE calendar.
