“When I arrived in the US, I didn’t know anyone and had very little command of English, but I was determined to become a transplant surgeon.” Now, 16 years later, this Colombian accumulates extensive experience in the area: kidney, pancreas, liver and small intestine transplants in children and adults. He has taught his two daughters . One of his achievements, for which he has obtained numerous distinctions, is having developed the first organ transplant program for Hispanics in the country, to educate and raise awareness in the community. “I constantly see patients with hypertension, diabetes and obesity who, if left untreated, can develop organ failure, for which they may later require a transplant.” That is why he recommends regular visits to the doctor, exercising and having a balanced diet.
