() — Two people were killed and nine others injured after a man rammed his pickup truck into pedestrians in Quebec, police said.

At around 3 p.m. Monday, authorities received reports of a collision between a vehicle and pedestrians in the Quebec city of Amqui, a Sûreté du Québec spokesperson told .

Amqui is located about 400 miles (640 kilometers) northeast of Montreal.

The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old man, later turned himself in to the police and was arrested.

The people who died in the incident are a man in his 70s and another in his 60s. Two other pedestrians have serious injuries and seven others were also injured, police said.

The incident is still under investigation and the reason for the incident is not clear at this time.

“My heart goes out to the people of Amqui, Quebec today,” tweeted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “Until we know more about the tragic events that have taken place, I will keep all those affected in my thoughts.”
