During the opening session “Friends of the Creative Economy WCCE 2022” at the Bali International Convention Center-Westin, Nusa Dua, Bali on October 5, Deputy Minister Angela explained that the third international creative economy conference is expected to become in an action to reactivate and recover the world creative economy sector.
“I invite delegates to make our debate today an action and to become an engine that drives the global creative economy to fight, not only as an engine for creative economic recovery, but also for global economic recovery and as a vehicle to achieve sustainable growth for all.

Effect of the pandemic on the creative economy
He also explained that during the pandemic, the creative economy sector was affected by it, just like other sectors. However, out of the 17 sub-sectors of the creative economy, there are several sectors that have even risen in the midst of the pandemic.
“For example, during the pandemic in Indonesia, the content-based creative economy grew by 10 percent and the digital-based one by 4-5 percent. In other creative industries, we see the industry come back with a bang. And for the first time in history, the market share of local cinema is higher, 61%, “explained Angela.
It also still saw growth in several sub-sectors of the creative economy, and rapid recovery in others, where technology plays a role and intellectual property is properly valued as an asset. In the future, we will also see the rise of social entrepreneurship that strengthens the value chain of the creative economy to be more responsible with social and environmental development, as well as with the inclusion of women, youth and marginalized groups.
“However, I believe that there is still a lot of room to grow and take advantage of if a supportive environment continues to be promoted in our respective countries and the source of great opportunities and growth in the post-pandemic creative economy is recognized,” he added.
Four sub-themes for the recovery of the creative economy
Deputy Minister Angela also explained to the delegates four sub-themes that are expected to emerge as important points for the recovery of the creative economy sector after the pandemic.
The four sub-themes are “Relevant Issues and Progress in the Creative Economy”, “Resilient Creative Economy for Global Goals”, “Global Creative Economy: What’s Next?”, and “Introducing the Creative Economy Roadmap”.
The first sub-theme will address the current state of the creative economy, including ecosystems, communities, setbacks, progress and opportunities for the creative economy in the future.
The second is related to inclusion and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) agendas to foster the resilience of the creative economy sector to respond to global issues.
In the third, all parties will jointly explore the direction of the creative economy and seek common ways to overcome the challenges and embrace the prospects of this sector.
“Finally, there is the ‘Creative Economy Roadmap Introduction.’ Here we will present the ‘Draft Bali Creative Economy Roadmap’, which will be the reference document for the results of this year’s WCCE”, he added.
In short, said Angela, this draft consists of 16 pillars of action that outline the priorities of the creative economy for global recovery. “We invite delegates to help finalize it as an outcome document for this year’s WCCE,” she continued.
Acknowledgments and conclusions
Previously, Angela also thanked the arrival of the delegates from various countries to Bali in the midst of their busy schedule, but present on the Island of the Gods, which offers hospitality, natural beauty and culture.
“On behalf of the Government of Indonesia and the team, we thank you for your presence in Bali. I hope delegates can find time to enjoy Bali’s natural beauty and experience the famous Balinese hospitality,” he said.
“The creative economy is a strong source of resilience in the world in the midst of the VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity) era. I would also like to thank our colleagues at the Foreign Office, our partners from day one,” said Angela.
She was also confident that the meeting and debate at the WCCE will translate into concrete actions that will become the engine of the world economy. “I think the creative economy will gain momentum as a global recovery effort. Not only as an engine of economic growth, but also to achieve sustainable growth for all », she concluded. Level I and II officials of the MOTCE also attended the occasion.
