In the end the agreements did not come to fruition. Henry Cavill announced in October 2022 that he would not continue with the project “The Witcher”. The third season will be the last he filmed, but the project will continue with Liam Hewmsworth.
“As with the greatest literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time I spent playing Geralt and with excitement to see Liam’s version of this fascinating and nuanced man,” Cavill diplomatically commented to avoid conflicts.
Of course, fans have not been happy with this decision. For this reason, showrunner Lauren Hissrich has appeared in different media to talk about the case. Recently, she confirmed that season 3 will be an honorable sendoff to Cavill.
Lauren Hissrich opens up about Cavill’s farewell to the project
“Henry has given a lot to the show and we want to honor him appropriately,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “What’s so interesting is that Season 3, to me, is the closest thing we’ve ever done as a one-on-one adaptation of the books.”, he added.
“ANDGeralt’s big twist is about giving up neutrality and doing whatever he has to to get to Ciri. And for me, it’s the most heroic farewell we could have, even though it wasn’t written to be that.
Geralt has a new mission in mind when we return to him in season 4. He’s a slightly different Geralt than we expected. Now, by the way, that’s an understatement.”, he finished.
