He describes what happened as “unacceptable” and urges the parties to protect International Law
Jan. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The World Food Program (WFP) has denounced that a convoy of the United Nations agency that was “clearly identified” was fired upon the day before by Israeli forces near a checkpoint in the Gaza Strip.
“The convoy, made up of three vehicles carrying eight personnel, came under hostile fire despite having received all necessary authorizations from the Israeli authorities. At least 16 bullets hit the vehicles,” it said in a statement.
In this sense, he explained that these actions by the Israeli Army put the lives of personnel at risk and left the vehicles immobilized, although no workers were injured by this “unacceptable” incident.
The WFP has highlighted that this is just “the latest example” that demonstrates the “complex and dangerous” environment in which the agency operates. Likewise, he has urged the parties to respect International Law, protect the lives of civilians and allow the safe passage of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave.
More than 45,850 people have died in Gaza due to the military offensive launched by Israel in response to the attacks of October 7, 2023, according to the new balance published this Monday by the Gaza Ministry of Health, which puts the number of fatalities at 49 and 75 injuries registered in the last 24 hours.
