The Vatican and Oman have announced on Thursday the “full” establishment of diplomatic relations after the Omani authorities have announced the opening of their airspace to all airlines in an apparent gesture of openness towards Israel.
By virtue of this decision, taken on the basis of the “desire to promote mutual understanding and further strengthen friendship and cooperation between the parties”, the Vatican will have an apostolic nunciature in the Gulf country, while Oman will have an Embassy. before the Holy See.
In this way, with Oman, a country that declares Islam as a State religion, although it prohibits discrimination on confessional grounds, there are already 184 States that maintain diplomatic relations with the Holy See, according to the Vatican news portal.
The establishment of full relations between the Holy See and Oman comes after the Omani Civil Aviation Authority announced on Thursday the opening of Oman’s airspace to all airlines, including Israeli ones.
