The spokesman for the United States Department of State, Ned Price, has assessed positively that Iran seems to have left behind some of “its non-initial demands” to re-establish a dialogue table on the nuclear issue, although he has clarified that there are still several issues to solve.
Among the positive aspects, Price has highlighted that at first glance Tehran has given up its demands to make the United States lift the designation as a foreign terrorist organization of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
Meanwhile, Price has assured that Washington continues to analyze the latest proposal presented by the European Union to reactivate the nuclear agreement with Iran and that it will not take longer than necessary to send its response to Brussels, reports the Bloomberg agency.
Price has ruled out that the United States has been “delaying” the negotiation while it decides what response to give to the European Union and has settled that if any agreement has been delayed in time it has been due to Iran’s “inaction” for months.
For its part, the spokeswoman for the United States National Security Council, Adrienne Watson, has “categorically” denied that Washington is considering “new concessions” to Iran as part of the return to the 2015 nuclear agreement.
The Brussels proposal is the umpteenth attempt to reach a new agreement, after the nuclear pact ended up collapsing after the unilateral decision of former President Donald Trump to remove Washington from the negotiating table in 2018.
Stakeholders have been closely watching the next move by the US, after the EU announced that it had received a “reasonable” response from Iran to its proposal a week ago.
World powers have spent nearly 18 months trying to broker a deal that would restore strict limits on Iran’s nuclear activity in exchange for the United States relaxing some of its sanctions on the Persian republic’s economy, including on its exports of Petroleum.
