MADRID Dec. 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United States Embassy in Syria urged US citizens present in Syrian territory this Sunday to leave the country “if possible” because the security situation “remains unstable and unpredictable due to the armed conflict and terrorism in the whole country.”
The diplomatic legation has recommended that Americans who cannot leave Syria prepare contingency plans for emergency situations and be prepared to shelter in place for extended periods, according to a security alert issued by the State Department.
The U.S. Government is unable to provide any routine or emergency consular services to U.S. citizens in Syria, since the Embassy suspended operations in 2012. Therefore, those who need assistance leaving the country should contact the country’s diplomatic corps at who want to enter.
Finally, he noted that the Nabil-Jaber border crossing, between Syria and Jordan, is open, and citizens with valid US passports will be able to cross the crossing for a limited period of hours. Those without a valid passport will need to contact the US Embassy in Amman to enter Jordan.
