“Following China’s actions, we summon (Chinese) Ambassador Qin Gang to the White House to move a protest through diplomatic channels against China’s provocative actions,” US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said in a statement. statement sent to the newspaper ‘The Washington Post’.
“We condemn China’s military actions, which are irresponsible and go against the objective of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,” he explained, before stressing that he also told Qin that Washington has not changed its stance on ‘one China’.
In this sense, Kirby has pointed out that Washington “made it clear once again what has been done in private at the highest levels and in public.” “Nothing has changed about our ‘one China’ policy,” she stressed, while stressing that “the United States is prepared for whatever China chooses to do.”
“We do not seek and do not want a crisis. At the same time, we will not be deterred from acting in the seas and skies in the Western Pacific, in line with International Law, as we have done for decades, to support Taiwan and to defend a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” he stressed.
White House sources quoted by ‘The Washington Post’ have detailed that the meeting took place between Qin and the White House deputy secretary and coordinator for Indo-Pacific Affairs at the National Security Council, Kurt Campbell.
Pelosi arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday night as part of a visit that has lasted less than 24 hours but has sparked controversy and has drawn strong criticism from the Chinese government, which considers the island one more province under its sovereignty.
