MADRID 25 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United States Government has condemned “in the strongest terms” the murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, an Israeli-Moldovan citizen whose body was found lifeless this weekend in the United Arab Emirates.
“We condemn the murder of the rabbi in the UAE and our prayers are with his family, the Chabad-Lubavitch community, the Jewish community at large, and all who are mourning his loss,” said a spokesman for the National Security Council of the White House, Sean Savett, in a statement.
The US authorities have lamented this “horrible crime against all those who defend peace, tolerance and coexistence”, denouncing that it is also “an attack against the United Arab Emirates and its general rejection of violent extremism.”
Along these lines, they have assured that they are cooperating with the authorities of this country, of whom they have praised “the rapid efforts” after having arrested three suspects this Sunday.
“Those who perpetrated this crime, and those who supported them, must be held fully accountable for their actions,” Savett concluded.
The Israeli Government announced this Sunday the discovery of the lifeless body of the religious man, who had been missing since Thursday.
Rabbi Kogan was an assistant to Rabbi Levi Yitzchak, the religious leader of the Jewish community in the United Arab Emirates. He also maintained ties with Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, who died in the terrorist attacks in Mumbai in 2008.
Israeli media such as the N12 channel previously indicated that Kogan could have been kidnapped by terrorist elements close to Iran, although at the moment there is no official confirmation of any kind in this regard.
