The US State Department has announced on Thursday the approval of the sale to Poland of more than 800 Hellfire missiles, as well as related equipment, for an estimated value of 150 million dollars (141 million euros).
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has delivered this Thursday the required certification notifying Congress of the possible sale, after the Polish government requested the purchase of 800 AGM-114R2 Hellfire missiles and four M36 Hellfire air training missiles (CATM ), as reported by the State Department in a statement.
Also included is technical assistance from the US Armed Forces for the use of missiles, as well as for their repair, storage, and logistical support.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by enhancing the security of a NATO ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe,” the statement read. the note.
The sale, according to Washington, will enhance Poland’s military objectives of upgrading its capability while improving interoperability with the United States and other Atlantic Alliance allies.
“Poland intends to use these defense items and services to modernize its Armed Forces and expand its ability to strengthen its national defense and deter regional threats,” the State Department has detailed.
The main contractor will be Lockheed Martin Corporation, based in the city of Orlando, Florida. Likewise, the sale will not alter the basic military balance in the region, the United States has assured.
